Good Pokemon for Gym Battle
These Pokemon have specific matchups that can make them superior to the Supreme (The Pokemon that superior to all Pokemon in terms of DPS, survivability, and matchups such as Machamp, Tyranitar and Dragonite). and also deal enough damage to neutral threats.
Heracross
Max CP: 2938
Best Moveset: Counter/Close Combat
Unlike the lackluster regional Pokemon other areas got, South America got a real treat when it landed Heracross as its exclusive Pokemon. Heracross is the best Fighting-Type Pokemon in the game, with an elite Attack stat and decent Defense and Stamina. Heracross can also learn the most powerful Bug and Fighting-Type moves in the game, which gives it a great advantage over several common gym defenders.
Charizard
Max CP: 2686
Best Moveset: Fire Spin/Overheat
Fire Spin is a stronger and faster attack than Ember, and Charizard's attack is just a bit higher than its Johto equivalent. Unfortunately, many players with Charizards are stuck with the legacy Charge move Flamethrower, which is significantly weaker than either Overheat or Fire Blast.
Flareon
Max CP: 2904
Best Moveset: Fire Spin/Overheat
There are only four Pokemon with higher Attack Stats than Flareon in all of Pokemon Go. With access to the best moveset, Flareon would probably be the most useful of all the Eeveelutions...if not for a woefully low Stamina stat. It's low HP means that it's not a very good gym defender, but don't be afraid to pull Flareon out when you want to quickly clear through the opening levels of a gym.
Vaporeon
Max CP: 3157
Best Moveset: Water Gun/Hydro Pump
Vaporeon forms the rank and file of most Pokemon gyms, thanks to its high stamina and defense stats. Vaporeon has an insanely high CP stat, higher than all but five Pokemon in the game.
Ursaring
Max CP: 2760
Best Moveset: Counter/Hyper Beam
With one of the top Attack stats in the game and an above average Stamina stat, Ursaring actually has some viability as a gym attacker in
Pokemon Go, especially when armed with Hyper Beam. Ursaring also has the potential for a decent Fighting-Type moveset, which could be useful clearing out Pokemon like Blissey or Snorlax from gyms.
Exeggutor
Max CP: 2916
Best Moveset: Extrasensory/Solar Beam
While Exeggutor doesn't look like a powerhouse, its high Attack and Stamina stats make it one of the most powerful Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Although Exeggutor's low defense prevents it from becoming a truly top tier gym defender, it can still absorb a lot of damage while pinging the hurt to your Pokemon. As a Grass/Psychic dual-type, Exeggutor is also surprisingly versatile, with several effective movesets. Solar Beam is Exeggutor's most powerful attack, but Psychic can also deal a lot of damage.
Donphan
Max CP; 3022
Best Moveset: Counter/Earthquake
Donphan's max CP is a whopping 3,022 while his base attack and defense are both equally matched at 214.Donphan has some impressive moves like Earthquake which deals 120 damage. Because Donphan is a ground type Pokemon, he also benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) allowing Earthquake to deal over 40 DPS (damage per second).
Gyarados
Max CP: 3281
Best Moveset: Dragon Tail/Hydro Pump
The fifth strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Go,Gyarados is a fearsome attacker that can ravage the lower levels of most Pokemon gyms with ease. Unfortunately, it's also a major pain to get a Gyarados, as players typically need to capture 126 Magikarp to get enough candy to get a single Gyarados.
