「我以前每天會買一大包,有18袋不同味道的薯片,睡前吃得一包不剩」。英國唐克斯特(Doncaster)一名辣媽,經歷過熱愛薯片與垃圾食物的時期,身形暴肥至107公斤,後來決心減肥,改吃番薯與健康飲食後,成功減了50公斤,判若兩人。

根據香港《蘋果日報》報導,26歲的奧爾德(Kayleigh Old)自小就肥胖,她不時偷吃巧克力等零食,母親曾把食物櫃鎖上,但都無法阻止她「爆櫃」取走零食。她與現任丈夫18歲起就同居,兩人都愛吃外賣餐點,吃巨無霸漢堡,也要來份加大薯條,身形更加不可收拾。

奧爾德20歲懷孕生下長子後,患上產後憂鬱症,要吃抗憂鬱藥物,讓她決心要主宰自己的人生,愛侶也鼓勵她,找醫師協助她瘦身。之後,她改變飲食習慣,多吃水果、蔬菜與瘦肉,但相信最能幫助她的,是番薯。奧爾德戒掉薯片後,最愛的是番薯,午餐吃烤蕃薯,晚餐則吃蕃薯泥,最後在2015年底,減至理想的67公斤。她現在在網上分享自己的成功故事以及餐單,幫助其他減肥人士,而且大受歡迎。
